It takes a village … no, wait – wrong start. It takes 1 1/2 pounds of fresh carrots–shredded, dehydrated, and combined with vinegar, canola oil, garlic, cumin, chili and sea salt–to make a 4-oz jar of Moru Foods’ Spicy Carrot Relish.
“Don’t forget love,” adds Sharmin Rashid, the charmin’ owner of Moru Foods. “We work in small batches, using only all-natural ingredients and … love. After all, my grandmother taught me this recipe. It connects me with fond memories of growing up in a loving family. I’m planning to introduce her other recipes, as well. Our next product could be her fantastic Raw Papaya Chutney.”
Spicy Carrot Relish is a versatile and locally-made condiment.
- Mix it with yogurt or cream cheese for a zesty dip
- Sprinkle a tablespoon (or two) on salads and soups
- Use it as a garnish on sauces
- Serve it as a condiment with pâtés, confit, terrines and galantines
Sharmin will hold several sample events at Rivercity Market. For the exact dates, keep an eye on our facebook page, or call Moru Foods at (512) 363-6934.
